SHUT UP, NATURE!
They are giving me a headache.
So, my question to you, when was the last time nature invaded your space and what did you do?

That said, perhaps you could put on some music to drown out birds' song? Or maybe move to another room until they are done? Earplugs are also an alternative, but those can be pretty uncomfortable.
Re: SHUT UP, NATURE!
And I can't think of me as invading nature's space because I am an animal too. (Sure, a human but still classified as an animal.) Therefore, I am a part of nature. Those birds are nothing more than noisy neighbors. I should call the bird police to tell them to keep it down.
Re: SHUT UP, NATURE!
Also growing up we lived in the country, so it was not unusual for snakes and such to get into our house.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-28 12:29 am (UTC)(link)There are also a couple sparrows that have made their home in the store I work at. It's a big box warehouse-type building, so they generally stay up in the ceiling beams and whatnot, but they'll occasionally poke around the garden area with all the bird feed. The noise they make isn't so much of a problem - it's the fact that they shit on everything. We do a pretty good job keeping the place relatively clean, but occasionally, you'll find the top chair in a stack of patio chairs just peppered with bird shit. It's pretty gross :/ There's not much we can do about it, though - nobody's sure whether the birds are actually trapped or if they just like it in there, because they've tried to get rid of them before only to have them come back.

Re: SHUT UP, NATURE!
For instance, this morning I was woken up around 5:30 by one of my rabbits deciding to move her litterbox across the room with her teeth. Spent an hour trying to get back sleep, had only just managed it when I woke up again, wasn't sure why, and opened my eyes to see a DIFFERENT bunny's nose right in my face sniffing at me. He'd just leapt onto the bed. And they kept it up for another hour before I could get back to sleep.
Fortunately I find this stuff as amusing as it is annoying. But after living with two rabbits in my bedroom, I'm really not bothered by animal noises from outside.

Re: SHUT UP, NATURE!
Oh, and the other day I found a giant centipede in my sink. Motherfucker's now cozied up in a toilet paper coffin.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-28 01:16 am (UTC)(link)I love on the tenth floor, so not that much nature makes it up here (the pidgeon that sits on the roof cooing and doesn't care about my attempts to shoo it off is pretty damn obnoxious).
I do have a largish brown spider somewhere in my room. I know he isn't dangerous and I like spiders, so I let him stay. I named him Gandalf and I end up smiling whenever I see him.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-28 02:14 am (UTC)(link)RN we have swallows in the range hood fan exhaust. That's fine, though, they only did real damage last year, when they decided the bathroom fan exhaust was better.
When I was growing up, the gable room of my attic-ked house had Constant. Wolf. Spiders. I got used to them, but the one the size of a small basketball freaked me out AND needed one parent wielding a straw broom and essentially clubbing it over the back of the head before it went down for the count.
Then there was the year the municipality decided to upgrade all the culverts and every single house along the highway (including ours) had mice by the HUNDREDS. That. That was. That was Not Fun.
That said, when I was living in a large urban centre, and the rents were being jacked so sky-high, everyone on the floor of the apartment building I was living in moved out, so my apartment was literally the only tenanted habitation on the floor. Ever seen the movie Joe's Apartment? So. Yeah.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-28 04:39 am (UTC)(link)It's annoying because we bought a fake hawk to hang that hasn't deterred it at all, neither does having the blinds down, fake predator birds in the window and yelling/waving our arms.
Some kind of honey eater I think.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-28 06:21 am (UTC)(link)Re: SHUT UP, NATURE!
Last year the owls (probably from our own (or our neighbour's) attic) decimated our chikenflock.
Every year we have the "plum vs. starling" and the "walnut vs. crow" battle. They win. Every time.
We frequently have mice (not in the actual house, but close enough): the common, grey kind, the brown kind with one black stripe along its spine, and something other small grey annoying rodent, that even the cats refuse to hunt/eat/chase.
Two weeks ago, I climbed up to the attic and found at least six small wasp-nests. Next week, when I go home, I have to do something about them, as my mother is allergic. The only problem is that I'm afraid. From all the nature around us at home, the only thing I'm afraid of are wasps.
