I'll never understand why people consider gender such a huge defining trait for a character. I want someone to write a character that wakes up after a gender swapping accident gone wrong and just shrugs and goes about their business.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
That would be a boring and pointless story.

We can see that gender is a pretty big deal though, imagine someone from a culture where rape is pretty normalized and women are just there to ogle over or order around to serve waking up female, they aren't going to go about their business. They are probably going to give up online gaming and reddit entirely in their shock.

IAWTC.

The dj actually had a fairly graphic depiction of rape, not for fem!Hashirama specifically but what happens to women on the battlefield in general. I think it's something Kishimoto skirts around but something that is definitely plausible in the Narutoverse.

Psh. Just because the main character doesn't react to their situation doesn't mean other people wouldn't. It could be awkward for the people they encounter, they could have a potential crisis of sexuality, they could adjust to potential physical limitations, or say society no longer considers their heterosexual marriage valid, or their partner is strictly straight/gay and still loves them but finds sex with them repulsive. There's lots of storylines to do with it, I just want the main character to be like "What's the big deal?"

And the bigoted asshole having a "change of heart" because s/he sees how the "other people live" is such an overused cliche.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Jeez that would be some preachy crap. This ain't high art, no one reads a genderbend story for that shit.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Preachy? How so? The real world issues?

And I would read the crap out of it, so there's at least one person out there. What the heck else is the point of a genderbend story then a "what would the story be like if (so and so) was a girl/boy"? Maybe, tailoring smut to a preferred gender combo, but I doubt everyone does it for purely that.

if gender wasn't that big of a deal, I don't think we would have so many people who are trans...

(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
I wish you hadn't opened that can of worms. Now we are going to have a legion of people kinkshaming on genderbend because the kink does not accurately reflect transfolk feelings. T-folk who are mostly pretty red hot on not having accurate portrayals conflated with fictional kink-genderbending which is a completely different thing entirely.

TBH took a good hard look at cisgender men and traditional masculinity is probably going to give more insight into how gender is a big deal personally and socially more than navel gazing about why people are trans*

Just because I don't understand it doesn't mean I don't take people's word for it when they tell me it is important to them.

I am okay with this. Especially if they're the unflappable type, and they get straight to business kicking ass or working or whatever.

Except I'd need a side character not being able to get over it. Their best friend has tits or a strong jaw, and suddenly they're all needlessly "wat do".

Or their lover is a polar end of the Kinsey scale and still loves them, but finds sex with them repulsive, but they still want to be together. Bonus points for a "But, I'm still me!" line.

Yes.

ngl, I did go, "hi self :)" at the email notification.

Is that not the proper indicator for saying I am the same anonymous commenter the person above was replying to?

ayrt - anon you replied to

(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
The SA is when you're the same anon adding or clarifying something about what you just said. If I comment to myself right now, I would use SA. Or if I decided to log in and let everyone know I'd made that comment.

"ayrt" would be the one you're thinking of :)

Ah I see. Thank you for clarifying.

Yes please. (this sort of happened to me in roleplay. Classic sexswap magic for a couple days. Character unflapped because that's how she rolls, just avoiding mirrors 'cause she's not on good terms with her male selves... ...very lesbian love interest making a face and 'yes darling. Ok. Now turn back.' Of course the fact that it was so temporary and the characters knew it downplayed a lot of interesting plot points like the ones you mention)

Basically yes please to any swapping where the character reacts in a nuanced way that's true to their personality... and everything it entails.

I would love this if they added the awkward (for the unswapped partner) sex scene, and the gender bendered suggests one or the other turns around, or to close their eyes. Or even to turn off the lights if that helps any.

"Trust me, you won't notice the difference when I go down on you or eat you out."

But the lack or presence of stubble is too distracting. Exasperated sighs all over the place.
