B- trolling, OP.

You almost pulled it off until "it make me feel like a homophobe!"

(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
yup, that's the point where I laughed out loud

(Anonymous) 2013-05-28 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
So you hate it when someone writes for a kink that is not your kink? Genderbend is the kink of choice of a lot of people, it is perfectly fine for other people to write for it without your approval of the kink. That you liked this kink is not homophobic, it is just that you found an aspect of this kinkdom that appealed to you.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-28 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure I recognize that doujin and I'm also pretty sure that the author didn't turn him into a woman because slash grossed them out in this case. It was a fairly major plot point that being a woman meant Hashirama had to do things differently and try harder than she would have as a man. It wasn't all about getting two characters to bang without there being two penises in the mix (it wasn't even about getting two characters to bang period). you aren't a homophobe for liking one genderbend thing, what the christ is wrong with you

Huh. That's a weird premise since I thought ninjas in Naruto didn't have that kind of problem. Haven't read it years though, so the last I remember was superpowerless characters like Rock Lee having to put in more effort. But it sounds interesting and I need to look for this doujin now :|a

Uh, I have nothing to say except that liking genderbends doesn't make you a homophobe.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Neither does not liking slash. It's called a preference.

Pretty sure this stuff tends to be more about fapping that about homophobia, or about and really valuable insights or views on gender.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-28 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll never understand why people consider gender such a huge defining trait for a character. I want someone to write a character that wakes up after a gender swapping accident gone wrong and just shrugs and goes about their business.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
That would be a boring and pointless story.

We can see that gender is a pretty big deal though, imagine someone from a culture where rape is pretty normalized and women are just there to ogle over or order around to serve waking up female, they aren't going to go about their business. They are probably going to give up online gaming and reddit entirely in their shock.

I am okay with this. Especially if they're the unflappable type, and they get straight to business kicking ass or working or whatever.

Except I'd need a side character not being able to get over it. Their best friend has tits or a strong jaw, and suddenly they're all needlessly "wat do".

I've seen this. It's actually not that bad. I feel like it's a respectful genderbend. Here's the link if anyone else is curious.

It is a junior SJW who has gotten a vague idea of what erasure involves, but doesn't quite understand how to apply it in correct context. They think that genderbend kink is erasure of homosexual relationships and is homophobic.

As a general input: my OTP is M/M in canon. I love the guys, write them draw them play them, the whole business. Then I imagined them as F/F. I still ship them to the Moon and back, but their relationship is slightly different as ladies. I enjoy exploring that possibility too. And lately, I'm starting to wonder how both half sexswaps would work (one very well, methinks, the other is the hardest option of them all. Still shippable, but they're not spontaneously falling into each other's arms).
I honestly can't see how this process would be homophobic. I agree that half-sexswapping a slash couple to make it het CAN be problematic in intent and/or execution, but you've seen for yourself that you can't paint all of it with the same brush.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Homophobia doesn't necessarily have anything to do with it, R63 is just a kink. I've genderbent het pairings into yuri and yaoi myself, as well as vice versa.

I don't know this doujin but genderbend of an m/m relationship on only one half of the couple makes me uncomfortable too (whereas making it f/f is fine with me). that's really a personal thing though, I know a lot of people enjoy looking at relationships in all sorts of variations...

if it's a good doujin, just enjoy it. there's nothing inherently homophobic about genderbending, even if it results in a straight couple. you have my gay seal of approval on this.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
I love genderbending - when it gives me more women. :) There's more than enough men in canon, especially in such canons as Naruto, which is also very problematic for the female characters, so I figure that every little bit helps.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm very familiar with this artist's works and have actually wanted to make a secret somewhat similar to yours. I wouldn't have made my point the way you did though, since I have no problem genderbend in general and quite like it when done well. For example, this, because I think making the First Hokage a woman is a really cool idea, though I could do without the romance with Madara angle. I'd have preferred to see his relationship with his canon wife Mito explored instead, but whatever, to each his own.

The thing I have an issue with is that this artist seems to be incapable to of portraying any m/m pairings without genderbending one of the participants. It become gratuitous and pointless when it's applied to characters like Haku. Haku-as-female is utterly uninteresting, and in effect you're also turning one of the only (possible) gay couples in the series into a het one. There are other examples too, and maybe it's a kink of hers, but I just can't help but wonder. If you really can't work with slash pairings, just don't. It's not like this series is lacking in interesting, underdeveloped female characters.

I'm familiar with their work too...

Child why?

Infinite perversity in infinite combinations. You can always tell when people do it for stupid reasons (main sign: the fic sucks). When it's done well, it's so exciting and fun.

I feel this is true of any trope that people hate cause their fandoms do it wrong, though.
