(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 04:19 am (UTC)(link)The thing I have an issue with is that this artist seems to be incapable to of portraying any m/m pairings without genderbending one of the participants. It become gratuitous and pointless when it's applied to characters like Haku. Haku-as-female is utterly uninteresting, and in effect you're also turning one of the only (possible) gay couples in the series into a het one. There are other examples too, and maybe it's a kink of hers, but I just can't help but wonder. If you really can't work with slash pairings, just don't. It's not like this series is lacking in interesting, underdeveloped female characters.
I'm familiar with their work too...

(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)I don't think the artist's sexuality means anything, the notion of a gay/bi woman being uncomfortable with m/m slash is completely conceivable.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)I don't think shipping preferences have anything to do with LGBT Queer acceptance anymore than someone's orientation might preclude them from liking slash. But that's just a personal opinion.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)In the same vein, someone's orientation doesn't preclude them from not liking something either. Though taking it to homophobic is a bit far, and not really something original anon brought up.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)I've seen her ship other yaoi pairings in other fandoms too not genderbent.
I don't know. As a lesbian it irks me that people use shipping as a surrogate for queer acceptance. Just because you like slash doesn't make you any more open or closed off to gay rights than someone who doesn't. It really irritates me when fangirls say they're for gay rights because then their otp can get married (I'm paraphrasing). It cheapens it. But that's just my opinion.
