I hate men. I really really hate men. I could tolerate the species eventually dying out if we could find a way to permanently, painfully, and immediately remove them from this world.

How edgy of you.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-29 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
to be honest, i hate men too, sometimes.

when i hear of some horrible thing on the news (like the steubenville case, or that poor woman on the bus in delhi), i'm filled with such anger.

Yeah? You SHOULD be filled with anger over things like that. But to then make the leap to "I HATE ALL TEH MENZ FOREVVVORZZZZ!" is ridiculous.

A way to avoid that

[personal profile] chardmonster 2013-05-29 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
is to remember that the Stubenville parties and those like it were/are filled with girls and women that both allowed it to happen and then happily shamed the victim/s.

Rape culture is perpetuated by men to the point that some women are raised to believe that victims are somehow to blame for their assaults. I'm not sure what you're instructing the OP to "avoid" but I'm assuming it's the anger. When you're affected by rape culture, it's natural and healthy to be angry at those who keep it in place.

"Women are helpless stupid airheads, completely incapable of forming their own thoughts or opinions about anything, and the only thing they can do is parrot back what the all-powerful men have trained them to say and think!" is what you seem to believe. How empowering.

Women who think other women deserve or asked for their rapes did not come to that conclusion on their own. Luckily, most women don't believe the aforementioned, contrary to what your fallacious thinking alludes to.

Women are perfectly capable of being ignorant and judgmental on their own.

Did you know that women don't talk to other women?

Because I sure didn't.

Rape culture is perpetuated by men to the point that some women are raised to believe that victims are somehow to blame for their assaults.

The men perpetuating rape culture were also raised to believe that. Ergo, both men and women perpetuate rape culture, even though men 'benefit' from such perceptions more as a class of people. Both men and women ought to re-evaluate the beliefs they were raised with, and if they do not (or choose to double-down on erroneous beliefs), then that's on each and every one of them personally. No passes for the ladies on this-- women buying into rape culture is no less deleterious than men who do.

Men benefit far more from their privileges that women benefits from men's privileges. It's men that ingrain rape culture into our society, even if there are some women who participate.

NAYRT

That still doesn't give women a free pass to perpetuate rape culture, though? At some point, people can and should be held accountable for their own individual beliefs and actions. We can't just simply forgive women for their harmful thinking because "it's the men's fault anyway" - where does that get us? The blame falls on our society as a whole, not just one gender or the other. It's in everybody's best interest to dispel such beliefs whenever possible.

Kinda ditto. :/

Oh rly?

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2013-05-29 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
It's not eventually. It'd be exactly one generation. If that. Because society and culture and everything you'd imagine would happen in your temporary utopia would collapse a fuckload sooner than that.

Remember, most ladies LIKE men a hell of a lot more then you. Fathers, brothers, cousins, uncles, husbands, boyfriends, lovers, sons. And half of the people they cared about? Just died. Presumably painfully. Probably in a lot of cases in front of their eyes.

You just gave the entire surviving population of the world PTSD and removed a whole chunk of their would be support base (family) you emotion driven twit! The first person you tried to celebrate with would probably either collapse into sobbing or deck you.

You'd be looking at mass suicides. A huge chunk of the people who'd need to step up to keep things going who just wouldn't bother. Panic, murders, hysteria. Huge voids in needed jobs and insufficient capable and sane people to fill them. Whole cities would have utilities cease and be damaged to the point they couldn't recover.

Oh, I'm not saying there wouldn't be a population that could rally and achieve some semblance of order. But if you're expecting a man free perfect world to live the rest of your life in, well, honestly? I don't think you'd live to see the species start to die out. You'd probably off yourself the first time you saw the new generation of rape and murder cases on the news (because both of those things would totally still happen).

I think you're probably taking her a bit too literally.

But I like reading theoretical apocalypse scenarios anyway so props to you.

I dunno. I've seen a few crazies in my time. Perhaps they don't mean it all the time, but I'm ready to believe a person could type that and mean it.

Seconded, but probably for a different reason. It was an interesting comic!

I actually agree for the most part.
