Boo. "Growing up" doesn't mean you have to stop liking the things you like. It just means that you might have less time for it, but I'd say no matter what you're doing, that it's important to make times for the things you love.

As far as the kids go -- I'm a second generation geek. Mom is a huge Star Trek and SFF fan. Some of my happiest childhood memories are getting to dress up and go to conventions with her. We'd pick up books through the library and then pass them to each other if we liked them.

And one of the perks of responsible adulthood is, well, more money to spend on stuff you like. Mom has what we have termed the Star Trek room, because the walls are full of signed collector's plates and paintings.

It takes some juggling but you can do it :)
