What I watched, What I expected, What I got
What I watched/played/read: name of a piece of fiction you enjoyed or loathed
What I excepted: your preconceptions of it
What I got: either a basic rundown or a list of what happened in the fiction
Re: What I watched, What I expected, What I got
(Anonymous) 2013-05-30 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)What I expected: A kid's show about an all-girls Hogwarts with a plucky adolescent heroine who gets into scrapes.
What I got: A show about a leather-clad lesbian witch teacher and her quest to keep monsters, boys, and electricity out of her school.
Re: What I watched, What I expected, What I got
(Anonymous) 2013-05-31 02:54 am (UTC)(link)i used to watch this show but i honestly don't remember anything out of it
Re: What I watched, What I expected, What I got
(Anonymous) 2013-05-31 12:00 am (UTC)(link)What I expected: Love triangles and angst surrounded by unrealistic fight scenes.
What I got: Pretty realistic fighting, a decent amount of angst and and some questionable one-sided love from Peeta and a smattering jealousy from Gale.
Re: What I watched, What I expected, What I got
(Anonymous) 2013-05-31 12:27 am (UTC)(link)What I watched/played/read: Game of Thrones (first book and first few episodes)
What I excepted: a nitty gritty epic fantasy of people fighting for a throne and swords and riding horses and idk what else snow, lots of snow and Ned Starks bastard and beheadings
What I got: way too many characters to keep track of from the word go, creepy creepy creepy incestual overtones and ?selling? of sisters to horse rapists, creepy treatment of the young girls and throughout all this a creeped out feeling of boredom. I did not get what I expected. I stopped
Re: What I watched, What I expected, What I got
(Anonymous) 2013-05-31 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)it's like
a tone. a loud one.

What I expected: Henry VI WITH DRAGONS! (note that this sort of was GRRM's starting point for the series: a fantasy War of the Roses. The Starks are the Yorkists, the Lannisters are the Lancastarians.)
What I got: Far more than 2 factions, a lot more children POV characters, a lot less dragons/magic/other traditionally "fantasy" elements. Less Shakespeare cribbing than I anticipated, but I totally get and appreciate that Tyrion is Falconbridge from King John.
Re: What I watched, What I expected, What I got
What I expected: A bad-ass young woman traveling the country looking for her sister.
What I got: A rag-tag group of people, of which the "bad-ass" girl was only one (and not as bad-ass as I thought) while avoiding the eeeevil ersatz government. Oh, and lots of scenes of the brother aaaaalmost escaping and getting recaptured...
Re: What I watched, What I expected, What I got
(Anonymous) 2013-05-31 02:19 am (UTC)(link)What I expected: I'm gonna take a wild guess and say the game involves killing people. Assassinating them, even.
What I got: OH. MY. GOD. Tackling someone and then stabbing them in the face is so fucking cathartic, guys.
Re: What I watched, What I expected, What I got
I expected a fun game (which it delivered on), but I didn't expect to like the storyline (as bizarre as it can be) or the characters so much. It really surprised me in that regard.

This too. I finished Assassin's Creed about a week ago and then almost immediately bought Assassin's Creed II (Which I'm almost finished with, I think?) because I needed to know MOAR. So much so, that I bought II for the PC even though I had the first one on the 360, simply because It was quicker to download than it was to wait until the next morning to buy it at a store.
/bad decision making
/don't even care
Re: What I watched, What I expected, What I got
What I expected: A James White-style hospital in space
What I got: an unbelievable, stupid romance followed by icky sex, then by death, icky non-con and a non-ending.
(Yeah, I know it's not a famous thing but I am still so angry I paid money for that book.)
Re: What I watched, What I expected, What I got
(Anonymous) 2013-05-31 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)Coffee doesn't have creepy territorial markings that appear magically after sex, after all.
Re: What I watched, What I expected, What I got
What I expected: idk, it's a Japanese kid's show that my roommate's into. Power Rangers-type stuff?
What I got: oh my god why am I crying this airs at 8am for 10 year olds.
Re: What I watched, What I expected, What I got
Re: What I watched, What I expected, What I got
Kamen Rider is the best though for realsies.
A proper example of the 4chan way of doing it
Here, made one of my own

(Anonymous) 2013-05-31 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)Re: What I watched, What I expected, What I got
What I expected: "Ooh! It's like Romeo and Juliet, but with a few other elements of the other plays thrown in and in a fantasy world! This'll be neat!"
What I got: SO MUCH WASTED POTENTIAL. If you could end your series an episode or two earlier and have Romeo and Juliet both be alive and happily married, YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG.
What I read: Teahouse
What I expected: "So it's a fancy courtesan house with anime characters in a faux-Victorian era? The art is nice, I'll give it a shot."
What I got: It's not rape if you enjoy it! If your love interest treats you like shit on the bottom of his shoe, it's because of his tragic backstory! The moral quandries of sex slavery get in the way of hot buttsex! All girls are stupid or bitchy!
What I read: Stardriver
What I expected: "Oooooh, a sci-fi war drama set in space and with hot guys! And the art is fantastic!"
What I got: "Will you guys stop acting like catty schoolgirls and creepy rapists and GET ON WITH THE PLOT!?"
Re: What I watched, What I expected, What I got
(Anonymous) 2013-05-31 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)What I expected: Quantum science.
What I got: A shaggy-dog story about a severed penis.
