Re: Your Favorite "Very Special Episodes"
(Anonymous) 2013-05-31 01:03 am (UTC)(link)That scene where he gives Cory the engraved watch pretty much tears up my insides every time. And the long scene near the end between Shawn and Cory standing in the snow waiting for the delivery pick-up where they discuss the situation and Cory shakes him out of it and Shawn confesses he's ashamed of being dirt poor and a screw-up and a troublemaker and is terrified he'll wind up nowhere in life no matter what he does...honestly, that second scene is one of the best-written serious scenes on a family show I can remember. It didn't even have a specific concise lesson, it was mostly them sitting together trying to wrap their minds around choices and classism and youth and the future and friendship and alluding to Robert Frost. Still sends shivers up my spine just thinking about it.
