You know those 90s-kids posts on Tumblr reminiscing over old movies and things? I guarantee you I have not seen any of those movies despite the fact that that was my generation. My parents never brought us to the cinema so to this day, reference to any popular movie before 2010 flies over my head.

That is how my friend is. :P The only movies she saw were the ones I showed her. She watched a bunch of anime and TV but no movies.

Yeah I generally get old TV shows, but not movies. Someday I'll definitely get around to them though. It's kind of sad, standing around awkwardly while other people laugh over an old joke referencing their favourite movies.

I'm in a similar boat. My mom sheltered me pretty heavily for religious reasons (and we were poor on top of that) so I missed out on a great deal of stuff.

I was born in the early 80s and I remember all of the 90s but I didn't get to see a lot of the movies that came out in the 90s until much later (some I still haven't seen). Part of this is because my parents wouldn't let me watch most R-rated movies, especially not stuff like horror movies, we didn't go the movies much except to see kid's films (the problem with being the oldest of four) and VHS rentals were EXPENSIVE back then so I was kinda limited to the movies I could see.

If a movie came out it was a guarantee everyone in my class had already seen it and spoiled it for me way before I ever got to see it.
