Fifteen years of watching anime and I've still never seen a single episode of Evangelion. I'm not sure watching it would really add anything to what I've learned through secondhand fandom at this point, but I have a feeling that someday I'll get the whim to see for myself.

Watch the first one, the compilation movies are actually not bad and overly condensed if you wanna avoid the wonky old animation of the tv series and QUALITY episodes with monster-of-the-day holdover super robot hijinks (though I love that stuff)

They re-animated a good chunk of scenes for the movie and they look great, also, AWESOME soundtrack.

The three movies that were released around 1981. They are the real reason Gundam is so popular -- the series was actually cancelled (it was originally planned to be 52 episodes or something like that).
