Gendry/Arya? I now know about the director asking Maisie to say 'I could be your family' like she would say 'I love you' - but when I first saw the scene, not knowing about it, it didn't register as romantic/fanservicey to me at all. Just her wanting a friend and missing her family. But maybe I'm not good with subtext or something.

It didn't read as romantic to me either. It read as, "Welp, everybody I've relied on my whole life is dead or out of reach and now you're skipping out too? We could be family, dude I have just been on traumatic and grueling adventures with."

Same here. She's out on her own in a scary-ass world, of course she wants a friend.

I read Arya/Gendry both in show and in the books as her both desperate for someone to rely on and as a crush where she isn't sure yet what a crush feels like. Then again, Gendry's only 15-ish in the books, so this is less jarring than in the show where he's played by a 20-something actor who more or less looks his age.
