/sorta ot unpopular opinion time?

I think she looks the part, but I really don't like her acting :/ Seems really wooden to me.

Totally going anon for this.... I don't either! I just don't like how obvious her acting is, like she has no awareness of how to communicate subtext. And some of her line readings are so cringeworthy, like her answer to "What god do you worship?" / "Death" She made it cheesy.

Aside from her hair color she doesn't even really look the part though. She has neither Arya's long face (in fact Maisie's facial shape is very, very round) nor her grey eyes.

Most people fall in love. Deal with it. The SJW idea that a character is weakened by falling in love is stupid.

This. The vast majority of male characters have love interests too, it's not something specific to female characters.

How is Book!Arya creepy/gross?

Aside from the part where she does get much darker and creepier in the book (due in part to the fact that we can actually see inside her head, instead of just relying on a screenwriters'/actor's portrayal), she also just seems like one of those smelly kids, even by Middle Ages standards, lol. "I just bathed like a month ago!"

I mean, total kid thing, so whatever, but I can definitely see the "gross" complaint. Of course, it's also "grittily" detailed on how she has to spend some time eating grubs and wormy apples, etc., but I just chalk that up to GRRM's love of writing grody details.

Gendry/Arya? I now know about the director asking Maisie to say 'I could be your family' like she would say 'I love you' - but when I first saw the scene, not knowing about it, it didn't register as romantic/fanservicey to me at all. Just her wanting a friend and missing her family. But maybe I'm not good with subtext or something.

It didn't read as romantic to me either. It read as, "Welp, everybody I've relied on my whole life is dead or out of reach and now you're skipping out too? We could be family, dude I have just been on traumatic and grueling adventures with."

Same here. She's out on her own in a scary-ass world, of course she wants a friend.

Also, she's like ten years old and Gendry is a friend/big brother replacement. She was closest with her big brothers, remember? Whyyyyy must people read romance into every character interaction... I think this here is proof het goggles are constructed of the same kind of ten inch thick bulletproof pyrex that slash fans' are.

6 OH MAN I so agree. My husband has not read the books so he's all like ARYA IS SO COOL whenever she does something that really isn't acceptable. Like the way that she holds on to her hatred of all these people including Sandor whose only real crime was killing Micah (and realistically, he didn't really have much of a choice since he was the king's bodyguard and had to act on the king's orders, it still doesn't make it right but it is understandable at least). And she tried to bash his head in with a rock!

Gendry was more her friend and someone she could confide in when she had no one else. I didn't see anything more than that in their relationship, and I hate how the show changed Gendry's storyline UGH

Really, reading the books I mostly feel sorry for her, she's what -- eight? Nine years old? And she's killed all these people (something she also doesn't do in the tv show, she killed ONE PERSON and that was another child) and she becomes so de-sensitized to violence it's scary. You see this perfectly normal child who had to endure her father being murdered right in front of her, being exposed to torture, etc. It's really horrible.

While I get your point about Gendry (though I ship it so whatever), let's be real: That girl is not happy or complete, with or without him. As you actually point out IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE SECRET.

She a lot lighter in the show. :/

I don't see the problem in her having a mild crush, though.
