Re: What's your slang?

I've been told several times I sound Jamaican and I don't understand??? (I'm Australian)

But slang includes; yo, man, dude/dudette, sweet, ace, chill, awesome, bloody, every variation of fuck ever, "yeah, no" and "nah, yeah"s and a whole bunch of very stereotypical *bogan things I try not to say but they sneak in anyway

*Australian....rednecks I guess?

Ah, Boganisms. I try not to use them... but sometimes they sneak in.

I tack "mate" on the end of thanks when I don't know someone and they've just helped me. Bugger. Bloody, fuckin baaaaaahhhhhhhhhstard, any and all combinations of swear words interspersed with stuff about sheep or shit.

Also, weird rhyming slang for food. Pass the Harold Holt.

The more bored/angry/drunk/closer to sports fields I am, the worse it gets.

I'm guilty of "bro"ing and "dude"ing around my friends. I think that may be a product of being the only girl in a large group of guys who were too immature in high school to acknowledge that I was a girl and also a friend, so I became "bro" to them. They even gave me a nickname that is my last name but ends in 'o'.

Sometimes I am guilty of pulling a faux bogan when I talk to real bogans though. Just so they don't bash me because my family are British and "erm, rather posh, terribly sorry old chap" and sometimes I slip into that.

>_>; I have a nickname that is my surname ending in ezzah. /also girl and it just happened I'm so mortified and try to hide it THEN MY BOGAN FRIENDS VISIT AND MY NEW FRIENDS FIND OUT NOOOO

Funnily enough, I only use mate when angry. The angrier I am, the more it's gonna be used and the more bogan I get. I try to hide it now that I'm in the city hahaa. At least I don't end/start everything with 'ay' and throw in the 'yeahs' everywhere?

Yeah mate how's that weather ay? good one.

I love my embarrassing bogan friends, but sometimes I wish they came with mute buttons. Especially when they drink, because they turn into loud, obnoxious yobs.

City bogans are a thing though! I think they've reached some unknown middle ground between bogan and hipster. They still won't wear shoes when they go out to buy grog, but now they do it with their jeans rolled up at the ankles, and instead of goon, they buy wine that comes in bottles and cider that tastes like horse piss.

I don't think they're evolving, just becoming more pretentious in their regular habits.
