(Anonymous) 2013-06-01 01:39 am (UTC)(link)The way the video is saying 'READ NOW' is wrong. It shouldn't be shoved in people's faces but...at the same time? People shouldn't be condemned for suggesting that "Hey, you might want to check out the books - they're awesome!"
Also, bring literacy isn't necessarily the best of arguments since, at least in my country [which is 1st world], there is a pretty large part of the younger population that is functioning at barely literate.
*I don't specifically mean classic lit here

My vocabulary, for instance, expanded a lot when I played the Legacy of Kain series of games, among others.
You can explore history through videos. You can explore viewpoints through pretty much anything.
You can stretch your imagination through art.
I've done all of these things, and I still don't see the big deal about reading novels, in particular. There are other sources that give the same benefits.
