Crime drama with cannibalism. How is that not obvious?

Also, food is people.

rude. and to clarify, it could be a show about hannibal's daily life, a show about his beginnings as a cannibal, a show with a romance of some sort, a show specifically about his meals (all of the secrets I've ever seen about this show include images with food)...or a crime drama. I think I asked politely enough to deserve a response without the snark.

different anon.

sometimes, people on the internet aren't nice. grow a thicker skin?

but hey, I like hannibal and you, so here you go: on the surface, it's a crime-every-week kind of police procedural. The crimes are a bit pulpy but in THE BEST WAY possible. (People vocal cords being played with a violin bow, violins made from human instestine, totems of people -- go hard or go home, I suppose. Also, pretty cooking that is people.)

Unlike a lot of procedurals it has a lot of things going on the background -- relationships developing, longer arcs being developed. I'm told that if you've actually read the books there is A LOT for you -- little references, interesting ways they've decided to adapt thing.

It's a pulp fiction show with intelligence, interesting themes and symbolism. Almost meta in the way it inverts and examines several tropes.

It's INSANELY awesome if you've read the books. They pack so many references in that it's ridiculous, from tiny offhand remarks to decor.

It's an AU of the Harris books. It begins with FBI administrator Jack Crawford approaching mentally unstable but brilliant professor Will Graham to help them solve complex and/or brutal murders. Because of his instability, Crawford has him evaluated by psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter, who begins seeing Will as a patient as well as assisting in cases. Unbeknownst to most of the cast, Hannibal is a serial killer and cannibal who the FBI has been after for years. The episodes have monster-of-the-week style murders with overarching storylines.

Plus, add in incredibly gorgeous cinematography (film quality), fantastic acting (the things Mads Mikkelsen can convey without moving one muscle of his face have to be seen to believed), insane food porn in every episode, gorgeously staged horror scenarios, and a really really interesting dynamic between the two leads. (One is a vulnerable wreck of a man wounded by his ability to empathize with demons, the other is an inhumanly elegant facade of a man hiding Satan within. ... SO TANTALIZING :D )

Watch it, you will not be disappointed!
