I had a LJ friend for a while who got involved in Second Life - a huge freestyle virtual world that is not dependant on going on quests and shit like WoW. Most of it was crappy custom content avatars and virtual sex (at least going on what she conveyed).

A virtual world could be fun, but I honestly expect it'd get taken over by people looking for porn/sex. Especially the furries.

True, but Second Life looks like it can be very, very pretty too~ definitely looks like it'd inspire the imagination!

I've never played it personally, though. ^^;
