Are you serious? Of course gay men have done this. Samuel R. Delany's one real life example that leaps to mind.

I know a gay man IRL who did this, the other well known example in Britain would be Tom Robinson, who had a hit with "Sing if you're glad to be gay". Then a few years later met and fell in love with a woman, married and had kids.
