Did so the next time. Finland was the host (of course, because of Lordi) and they had Apocalyptica performing on the voting break. It was so much fun, I've watched every year since then. That's only three years, so far, but I'm still having fun and I'll keep watching. *g*
Bonus: When I watched it for the first time, I tried imagining all the artists as Hetalia characters. Twice the fun! *g*

(Anonymous) 2013-06-02 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)Then they won and were suddenly national darlings. The band leader's home city even renamed its central square "The Lordi Square". I happened to visit the square that same year and already there was a shop there dedicated to Lordi merchandise. I don't know how Eurovision winners are usually treated in their home countries, but I feel like Finland knew we'd never win again and celebrated accordingly.

I have to admit, I haven't paid much attention to Lena, but that's mostly because of Stefan Raab. I have no patience for that guy. But I guess he did a great job promoting her (sending her to the ESC twice!) and now she's hosting/participating in German music/tv shows.

*g* Because Finland is awesome. They also have Nightwish, Apocalyptica, Amorphis, The 69 Eyes, Children of Bodom, HIM, The Rasmus, LAB, To Die For, and so many more ♥ ♥ ♥
*cough* Sorry, couldn't resist.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-03 08:06 am (UTC)(link)As for why Nordic countries are the home of metal, I don't know. Music trends are usually regional. Lordi is a lot more fun than the hate crime-committing psychos.

One of my other favourite Eurovision moments was this song by Ukraine in 2007...

It's just so...Eurovision. But I think it lost out to Russia. I was genuinely gutted.
