I agree in theory; in practice, it's a huge task. I wonder if it's a section that could be added and then edited by an army of volunteers.

Or someone takes on the username/sock transcriptionanon and posts in each thread every day, so that people who are sight-impaired can skip to that comment first off, then read the rest?

I was thinking a separate comment thread, like "name the fandom" and "general comments." But having a tradition of "first person to comment does a description" is a really cool variation on "FIRST!" and would probably be more helpful to blind folks.

i think it would just keep people from commenting on a secret until someone has bitten the bullet of transcribing it. people are lazy as fuck.

It may not even be just because they are lazy. I tried to transcribe a secret just now (the one below) and it is difficult. I don't know how much detail to go into and what exactly is important.

that too, I suppose. I know I was mostly talking about myself with the lazy. Like if I saw that I was the first person and I'd have to transcribe a secret? Man, I'd just wait for other people to have posted regardless of how easy or hard it is to do the transcribing.

That's kinda a horrible idea. Close to no-one would be willing to comment, specially if it's a long-ass secret or a complicated image.

I suspect, that leaving the ALT texting open to "the public" just gives trolls another in.

That was my first thought, especially if, as suggested above, the task unofficially "fell on" the first person to comment (and that might also lead to disagreements on "the right way" or dogpiling on someone who didn't know/doesn't care). Cue copy-paste of "THE SEKRIT IS NOONE CARES ABOUT UR VIZION LOL".

What will happen is you'll end up praying for me or one like me to show up, do a first post that won't be any of that at all, and then somebody will post like they are upset when in truth they'll be relieved.

I think it would definitely take some effort, perhaps a team of people who generally get to F!S early on, but it would be a nice thing to do if we could work it out.
