Yep, between my asshole cheating Grandfather, the probability that my littlest brother is a half-brother due to my mom being a cheating asshat, my husband's experiences with his first wife (oddly enough, we're now friends with her second husband, when she finishes with the third they may need to start a club), and my own experiences being cheated on, I see nothing glamorous about it and only feel contempt for the people/characters who can't keep it in their fucking pants. I automatically lose respect for you if you don't have the decency to end it with one partner before starting up with another. Probably a main reason why I never even gave Mad Men a shot.

There's a homewares shop in my town (also advertises on telly) called "Infidelity" with a male and female symbol. What.

How many confused customers must they get?

otoh, how many customers who started out "WHOO LET'S CHECK OUT THE MYSTERIOUS MAYBE SEX-SHOP" and ended up being all "WHOO REASONABLY-PRICED TOASTER"

Don't be too harsh on your mom. There are often very many good reasons for women to need more than their husband can provide.

SA: That may be true, and I'd never say my dad is the most perfect person, and he was out of town a lot around that time, but seeing how her mom felt about being cheated on all the time, you'd think she'd think twice. Like I said, break it off first, there's no reason to cheat.

Would you make that excuse if it was her father who cheated? Just curious.

FUCKING NO

The double standard here is so strong is turning my stomach.

If you honestly think a woman cheating is excusable and should be understood more because 'she had issues', while a man cheating would be terrible, you're a fucking hypocrite.

LOL! This is trolling, right? Otherwise, I'd just say, don't be too harsh on your dad. There are often very many good reasons for men to need more than their wife can provide.

Not the OP

It is a complicated situation and different for every case. My aunt had an emotional affair that she escalated into a full-blown affair just so she could get the attention of her husband, who was also cheating on her. At the time, she was suffering from postpartum depression and anxiety as well as taking care of a disabled child, and she did not deal with her problems the way she would have if she was healthier.

She was not getting what she needed in a relationship from her husband (someone she could confide in who was always there for her and her son), so she cheated. He wasn't getting what he wanted (a fully sexual relationship with a woman who worshiped him), so he cheated. But they certainly don't deserve the same level of scorn, in my opinion.

I think we need to look closer at why people cheat before passing ANY kind of judgment.
