Transcription of secret 1

(transcription inspired by secret number 4)

One of my fandom friends has a separate account just to bitch about people that annoy them in the fandom.

I think it's just as petty as the stuff they're complaining about.

The hypocrisy is starting to annoy me.

Yeah, this transcription thing does get annoying real quick.

I think that's a great thing for you to do, transcription guy. :)

I don't know who you are, but I like you. :) I'm not blind, but still, thank you for doing this. You'll probably get a lot of flak for this, but please, keep at it! :)

SCREEN READERS CANNOT READ INFORMATION IN BRACKETS.

Um, yes they can.

....dude, chill. Every person I have known who uses a screen reader can read text in brackets just fine. Worst comes to worst, you get the boring monotone computer voice going "left bracket, text with punctuation stated, right bracket".

Seriously, [personal profile] transcription_guy—if you (or anyone else) want someone on Dreamwidth to check your transcriptions to make sure they work with JAWS or NVDA, you can probably PM either [personal profile] we_are_spc or [personal profile] not_a_sniglet and they'd be glad to check it out. They're both blind fannish types, and I'm pretty sure the only reason they don't hang around F!S has been the lack of alt text and transcription for secrets.

What screenreader are you using? That's the first time I've ever heard of square brackets being read as code, so I'm curious.

That's exactly why. And definitely. [personal profile] transcription_guy can absolutely feel free to toss me a PM. I'd be more than happy to help any way I can.

Hey, just tried to PM you and it said you don't accept messages? Is there another way I can contact you? I do have a few questions I was hoping to ask.

Thanks!

Oh my gosh! I am so sorry. For a while there I had a bunch of drama llamas messaging me and crap so changed the setting and entirely forgot to fix it when everything blew over.

But now it's fixed and you can send me PMs. Or alternately, there's a public post on my journal you can use. Or any of the IM services listed in the profile, but PM might be easiest now that it is fixed.

Again, I am so sorry for that.

No problem! Stuff happens.

Sending the message I wrote earlier now!

They can, too. Or mine can.

Thanks for doing this. In addition to helping people who need to use screen readers, I find it useful because it saves me the trouble of opening a new tab to click the secret link in each comment thread to remember what the secret was about. You're awesome!
