I've always felt Eurovision was a very silly affair, but I've come to recognize its cultural significance in the more recent years. As silly as it is, we have managed to kind of bond over the shared experience.

Plus, even though most of the songs tend toward the mediocre, there's always an act or two in there that's genuinely entertaining, either because the song is actually good or because the performance is so over the top crazy the song doesn't even matter. If you're lucky, there's an act that has both flash and substance, and then you're on the edge of your seat for the rest of the night hoping that other countries 1. recognize that the act is in fact awesome and 2. can set aside their political alliances enough to give that act decent points.
