I've actually wanted something like this before
I don't think it'd be difficult to implement this as long as we ask future submitters to also include a transcription of their text--hopefully in most cases this'll be as easy as them cutting and pasting their word walls.
Something simple like
Picture of Sherlock, text: "I have an undying hatred of Benedict Cumberbatch that borders on the fetishistic"
Keep it simple, but useful. There's actually a bot on reddit that transcribes meme pictures somewhat like this.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-02 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)Honestly, it's no big deal. And if someone took God-knows-how-long to look up an image, edit it, and add the text for it, they can certainly copy-paste the same text (and add a short description of the visual) as part of their submission. An extra minute, tops.
Re: I've actually wanted something like this before
From where? Are you going to wander off to some visually impaired community forum or something and tell folks of this site? And assume they'll care?
I'm not really sure where this traffic increase will be coming from.
