The only time I can excuse cheating is when it's between an abusive couple where the one cheating has been threatened by the other that they will hurt or kill that person for leaving them.

And I think those might be the worst circumstances ever to cheat, because getting caught (always a risk) means they might actually harm you. Even if that wasn't a risk, jumping from an abusive relationship to another relationship is very unhealthy, and part of the reason abusive relationships tend to come in groups for a lot of people.
