I know nothing of the original series, so I didn't even know that Khan was supposed to be Indian.

Was he truly meant to be Indian in the original though, or are people just assuming that because his name sounds vaguely Indian-ish (sort of I guess)?

good question! I don't know but imo I'd guess that humans had probably all cross-pollinated at that point, and he could be a Heinz 57 like so many of us already are. but not a ST expert, I'm sure someone else has an exact answer.

Why do you ask questions that are really easy to answer with Google? :/

The Eugenics Wars took place mostly on the Eastern side of the world. Khan was supposed to be Sikh, from the Northern region of India. His actual origin story is vague beyond that, though.

There's a lot of interesting discussion among Trek nerds about the name. "Khan" could be a title, "Singh" could be Sikh, and "Noonien" isn't classifiable. Moreover, Sikhism as I understand it is a religion, and we have no evidence that Khan is religious (few people are in Roddenberry-era Trek).

Khan is definitely depicted in TOS as Indian, but I don't think it's canon-supported to say "Khan is a Sikh."

DA

Actually, on the page they linked, it says that Khan's background is suspected to be Sikh, not a given. So Khan will go on being mysteriously mysterious.

Because I don't care enough to bother and people on F!S are usually more than happy to provide such information.

There is nothing vague about it. Khan is a very common name on the subcontinent and in the diaspora.
