I think it's just the fangirls who keep shrieking that "OMG CID IS NOT A BISHIE!!! VINCENT/CLOUD/SEPHIROTH>>>CID 4EVAAA!!!11one" and some people I know IRL are all, "Cid isn't as awesome as Cloud or Sephiroth. End of story."
