I appreciate the books hardcore, actually. My mom loves them like nothing else, and I love the story and characters and I really admire how detailed he made his universe (HE INVENTED MULTIPLE LANGUAGES, FOR GOD'S SAKE) but I just...I can't read them. I don't know, it's like he uses pages to describe a wall, augh. I think it's just too much for a lot of the contemporary audience (like me, lol) and if he had submitted it to a publisher today it would probably have gotten rejected, but I think that's just our attention spans dwindling as society develops more than anything.

OH SORRY I'M AN ENGLISH MAJOR OOPS

I honestly wonder at that. As a fan of both classical literature and contemporary literature... and as a fan of things like video games and cartoons that are apparently "destroying the intellect of the new generation", I'd like to deny that, but y'know... as much as I love novels and plays written before 1920, I really have to put myself in a different mindspace when I'm reading them. :P

I always think: "Oh, it's just that contemporary literature is more in tune with our current societal mores, of course it's easier to read!", but yeah. I can't help but agree with you on the attention span thing. *sigh*

MAYBE MY ATTENTION SPAN IS JUST TOO SHORT, HAHA. But I really don't think things like TV are helping, even if I do think they're awesome and worth some merit.
