Re: 18 26 35 36

I'm not saying movieverses are bad (also, you misinterpreted my "canon" comment - I meant that the books are just as canon as the movies which is why people might want to read them and not that the movies aren't canon).
To me, it's better to read the books and watch the movies because, although the movies are sometimes very good, the books give better insight into the characters and are just richer - it's a question of format. For example, the last HP movie is very good, but half the plot from the book is missing because if everything had been in, it would have lasted over five hours. To me, it's sad that someone who loves the HP movies won't take the time to read the books because they're missing a lot of details on the HPverse. Same thing for the LotR movies.

Then there's the matter of re-imagination of canon (when a director/scenarist decides to change the original story in order to make a point that's somewhat different from that of the writer, like in The Prestige) - in that case, I'm sad when people don't read the book because it's different from the movie and there's something you can learn from it. Basically, I'm just pro-books.

Re:fanfics: never said movieverse fics were bad. Believe me, Anon: I'll read any verse if the fic is good.
I am sort of annoyed by people who refuse to specify their fics are based on the movies "because the movieverse is just like the bookverse", though. Or people who insist the movies are better than the books when they haven't even opened the first one.
... but I guess that's another discussion altogether. (/TLDR)
