\Things That Make You Realize That You Aren't As Grown Up As You Think You Are

(Anonymous) 2013-06-04 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
A few days ago I stepped barefoot on a shard of broken glass, took the tweezers and pulled it out despite pain and ugh, and then realized that I was waiting for heaps of praise at my bravery.

Then I remembered I'm 24 and this is something any grown up should be able to do. I gotta say, I'm still kinda bitter that I never got that praise.

And unrelated to the above, but related to the subject line, any time I see a strange dog off the leash and approaching me, I run and/or start screaming if they get anywhere within five feet.

I think the fact that you realized it was silly to wait for heaps of praise means you are a grown up? Not sure though. Will check with the grown-up council.

My love for cute stationary supplies. I will never grow out of that kid, "my pencils smell like strawberries! <3!" phase. Like this site, Coolpencilcase.com will be the death of me. It's so cute!

Hey, good job on pulling out the glass, anon! I'd probably limp around until somebody came back and did it for me.

I still get excited when I do 'grown-up things' like going to buy the groceries or coming back from work with gifts from the kids. But I generally cling to my childhood.

The stuffed rabbits. There are a lot of them. And I keep getting more. I had a layover in Heathrow a few weeks ago and bought one of those neck pillows that was a rabbit. And my boyfriend's mom made me a pillow rabbit for christmas. I keep lots of them on my bed but have to take them off at night or else there wouldn't be room for me.

Running from an off leash dog is a really bad decision. A stupid one even. I assume you have a phobia? But seriously, don't do that. Just turn around and calmly walk away.

My mom bought me a MLP:FiM figurine for Christmas as a joke. I was genuinely happy. It's on my desk.

I read a YA book recently. The genre was steampunk, but what I really liked were the descriptions of all the pretty, pretty dresses and handsome men. My priorities, let me show you them.

Last night there was a spider in my bathroom. I screamed for my dad until he came and rescued me. Admittedly, I do that partially because it taps into his desire to protect the womenfolk and makes him feel all manly and that puts him in a good mood.

I think that's a brave thing to do, anon! I'd probably just have made my boyfriend yank it out while cringing and squealing through the whole thing.

(Then again, I did pull a tiny shard of glass out of my palm with my teeth when I was 15. So I guess it's just something ya gotta do if you're alone when it happens. :P)

...And I don't think I'm a grownup. I THINK I'M A PERSON. Nothing I've done has contradicted that yet. XD

I listen to music mostly that I think is adorable. And I sing/dance around my house when no one's there. A lot.

Supposedly I'm a grown man, but whenever I see a centipede, I shriek and run away and then my mom has to come kill it for me. :(

LOTS of things. But I felt really childish when I was completely jealous that my 12-year-old cousin got a Hobbit lego set for Christmas and I didn't. XD

the fact that I instantly want to respond to "guess what?" with "chicken butt!" no. matter. what.
But I never do it, generally because it's a kid who says the "guess what" part :p

other than that I'm pretty grown up though, owing to the fact that I work with kids and kind of have to be.

I...will probably never consider myself grown up.

I don't deal well with insects indoors, and if there's bits of food left on cutlery when I'm emptying the dishwasher I'll make the ew face and flick them (the food, not the cutlery) into the garbage. Without touching, if possible. If that doesn't work, I throw them back into the dishwasher after emptying it.

The fact that this happens often probably means we don't have a very good dishwaher?

I've been watching a show recently. I'm pretty good at calling plot twists, and always feel a little smug when I do.

The show is made for people half my age.

In addition, I ended up doing a full clean of my bathroom a couple weeks ago, down to unclogging the shower drain of icky hair. Afterwards, as procrastinated on my homework, I ended up whining in my head a bit. I'd cleaned the bathroom! That's responsible! Why can't I just turn those responsibility credits in and call it a night.

Then I just finished my homework. And actually felt better for it.

Putting a ton of parmesan cheese on my pasta. I feel it's a childish thing to do because my parents always told me I used too much. Stuff like "It's supposed to be pasta with cheese, not cheese and maybe some pasta"

Actually it may be that using too much parmesan cheese makes me feel MORE adult, actually, because when I started living on my own and realized no one was there to police how much cheese i used, I just said to myself "I can do this" and proceeded to wantonly sprinkle parmesan cheese on my spaghettis

I love to go to toy stores and the toy aisle in the supermarket. I mainly buy ponies, but I love to look at the dolls too. I´m 30. XD

I guess I´ll never be a "grown up" since I have more interest in staying at home watching cartoons, tv series and anime than going out clubbing.

I've never considered myself grown up. It actually freaks me out that I'm 25 and considered a "grown up," that there are people my age with a mortgage and kids, that there are taxes and shit that I have to do. It's disconcerting. The only good thing about being an adult is that I get to sleep when I want, eat what I want, and have sex. The rest of these responsibilities and shit can go DIAF.

If I actually took a car to the grocery store and need to use a shopping cart to get my groceries to my car, I will always speed up and hop on the back bar. There may or may not be a quiet, "wheeeeeee!"

Stepping on glass hurts, I understand where you're coming from. *hugs*

Anyway, I watch kids TV shows and like kids movies. I'm 23. :|
