Running from an off leash dog is a really bad decision. A stupid one even. I assume you have a phobia? But seriously, don't do that. Just turn around and calmly walk away.

This. A person who's screaming and running around is pretty much begging the dog to keep paying attention to them.

DA: Pretty much this. Last time an off leash dog approached me - well, a hostile one anyway - I was running for a different reason when this thing showed up and started chasing me. I was annoyed more than anything at this thing being off leash at night with no owner in sight. I slowed, glared at it, muttered 'where the fuck did YOU come from?' and it buggered off.

Dogs sense fear easily and they'll give chase. Running is a terrible idea.

And sometimes they don't even realise they're chasing you. They just want to run with you! Running is fun!

Yeah, they're not always 'attacking,' sometimes they just get excited and want to run/play. But if you have a phobia, you won't want that, that'll just terrify you MORE.
