Milk comes in bags?!

Wow, you learn something new every day.

You should check out Malaysia. If you take away a drink, they put it in a clear plastic bag, tie a string on one end so you can hold it, and pop in a straw. Presumably because plastic cups are more expensive.

I've never ever heard anything remotely like that before and find it kinda fascinating.

That was common in cheap-ish/local-owned shops here in Mexico when I was younger. I haven't seen them in a while though.

I think plastic bags in general got more expensive somehow, because now Wal-Mart and similar shops hoard them and make them thinner and thinner every time.

Re: TUMBLR JUSTIFIES ITS EXISTENCE

(Anonymous) 2013-06-05 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
At Walmart, they hoard them because they recycle them and the more plastic a store recycles, the bigger their bonus in that quarter. (Yes, I used to work there.)

ayrt

Well, mystery solved then! :V

(Thanks, I wondered about that!)

Same thing in the Philippines, except without the string.

That's more of an eastern Canadian thing. I love on the Prairies and none of the stores here have bagged milk. This makes me incredibly sad.

Ah, I see. I assumed it was everywhere in Canada; it's interesting to know it isn't.

Maybe one day you'll get your bagged milk anon. One day...

I also love on the Praries

Oh goodness, in my (non-Canadian) elementary school, for about two years whenever you bought a milk with lunch it came in a tiny little bag (like this) and you had to stick your straw through the top of it without letting it poke through the bottom or else it would leak everywhere. If you have ever watched six-year-olds try to precision-stab milk, you will understand why this was the worst decision ever.

Oh my good god who would ever think that was a good idea?! I have next to no experience with kids and even I realize this is a disaster waiting to happen.

I'm fairly sure that's an eastern Canada thing, as I've never seen bagged milk in my life. Likewise I've never seen a parkade. A lot of these seem region-specific. It's still neat, though.

An anon above said it was an eastern Canada thing too, so I suppose that's right. Do you just have cartons, then?

Parkade is such a fun word. The reality is disappointing.

Cartons and jugs in 4L (which is basically exactly 1 gallon anyway) and 2L. We also have those little single bottle in 500ml or so, the 'Milk 2 Go' ones, not sure if you have those. They come in a bunch of different flavours, but the regular cartons and jugs are only white and chocolate. Albeit we have everything from half and half to skim in white milk, I don't know anyone who doesn't drink 2%.

I've seen parkades in both the east(OK more like central) and the west, but not really in between? IDK.

I grew up in Manitoba and I'm 90% sure we had none there, but I live on the west coast now and I haven't seen any here either. Of course, I don't live downtown in a big city, so I rarely see parking garages as-is. We're more likely to just have plain underground parking out here.

IT'S AMAZING

I'm from the States but I've lived here in Canada with my fiance for nearly a year, and I'm always excited to pour it on the rare occasions that we buy milk. BECAUSE IT'S IN A BAG AND THAT'S SO FUCKING WEIRD

Haha, it is kind of awesome! It's funny how such small differences can astound and confuse you.

It is!

I also like how they sometimes say "lef-tenant" instead of "loo-tenant" and "Zed" instead of "z." It will never stop being hilarious XD

There's also bags inside of bags! There's usually 3 smaller bags inside a 4 litre package, which is really good for big families or people who eat lots of cereal per week.

Not in all of Canada anymore. I haven't seen bagged milk since the early 90s. XD
