The White Stripes.

You've heard of their music before in commercials and movie soundtracks/trailers even if you've never heard of their band name. Especially, their song, "Seven Nation Army."

They stopped? I am not caught up on the times, and now I am sad gdi.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-05 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
They stopped making music together but Jack White is involved with "The Dead Weather" and he also works solo.

I don't! Jack White is doing a great job running a record label, producing bands and generally making the city of Nashville an overall less shitty place, I wouldn't want him to focus all of his attention on doing White Stripes stuff anymore

(Also I am like the only person in Nashville -- well, when I was still living there -- who had never seen Jack White anywhere. Seriously, every single person I knew had seen Jack White at least once while out and about)

(Anonymous) 2013-06-05 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that a prop cigarette or does he really smoke? I thought singers weren't supposed to smoke?

I agree with you, OP. Although in my opinion they never topped 2003's Elephant, they still made great music to the end.

I will never not be weirded out by finding out they were exes rather than siblings.

Jack's solo album was good, but The White Stripes were amazing live and I miss that.

And, I just realized I first saw them over ten years ago. Damn.

Why is this a secret? Is it embarrassing to like the White Stripes now?

In many ways, yes, I do as well. I loved the duo dynamic of Jack and Meg. Don't get me wrong, I love Jack and his solo project and his other projects and everything he does, but I love Meg just as much and I miss not seeing her.

But in other ways, I'm glad they decided to stop before they really lost their touch and they were just making music out of an obligation or something. Jack had said plenty times before the breakup that they only ever planned to make a few records and then call it quits. Music is really important to him and he seems to want to do more than just one band or be solo forever, and Meg has always felt really uncomfortable in the spotlight so I can understand and respect why they decided to call it quits.

I do really miss them, though. Probably my favorite band.

I'm not a huge fan of but they did a few songs that I really liked, and I thought they were better together than Jack White is by himself. :/

Me toooo. I love Jack White's music, but I don't think he'll ever write an album that will make me love it like White Blood Cells or Get Behind Me Satan. The best live performance of his I've seen was the White Stripes show in 2005 (I've also seen Raconteurs and Dead Weather).

Even though Jack White was really the big creative force of the White Stripes, there was something magic about that group. Perhaps it was the relative minimalism.

I will never ever EVER get over the fact that I never saw em live. (unless they toured again, but like...that almost-definitely won't happen =/)

He probably wanted to work with someone who could actually play the drums rather than just bang on them like a 2-year-old.

OH GOD ME TOO OP.

The Raconteurs as well.
