Allow me to disagree. I have seen a sulkie teenage thing done a lot, but I can't remember anything that resembled Daria.

In most shows, the sulky teenager is either a caricature that we're meant to laugh at or be annoyed at (if aimed at adults), or the cool one that we're meant to like and cheer (if aimed at younger crowds).

In Daria, what I find unique is- she's sulky, but it isn't presented as a good thing nor a ridiculous thing. The show was just very frank. Some teenagers are sulky. They are moody and snarky and they always look depressed. But it's not done to be cool, and it's not something that is to be adored or admired- Daria slowly grows out of it over the series.

I'd be more okay with this if every Daria fan I met didn't act like she was some kind of shitty role model. :/
