If I were to make a playlist about narcissism, this song and Pussycat Doll's "Don't Cha" will be on the tracklist.

I deal with "Girlfriend" by ignoring the music video and instead pretending it's sung by some asshole girl who's in denial about the fact that the guy is totally not into her and talking bit while bitching at his girlfriend totally fruitlessly, but never succeeding in stealing him from her.

IIRC Avril Lavigne claims that this is an accurate interpretation of the song, but the other egotistical songs in the album makes it hard to believe that Lavigne was being ironic.
