I guess that's actually a fair point. Hollywood likes to make movies about how some person who's in some way physically or mentally disabled has a cool power or ability that "makes up" for it. Even in the context of an intentionally humorous fake disability ("dyspixia"), it'd be nice to see an acknowledgment that some things don't come with an upside. (Then again, the people who write "deaf" as "Deaf" would probably get pissed off at THAT . . .)

I'm "D"eaf and I am not pissed off at that. I actually agree with you. The way Hollywood portrays people with disabilities is not realistic at all. It disgusts me, in fact. But, keep in mind though - being Deaf doesn't mean my life sucks. AND it also doesn't mean my life is *~*special*~*. I'm just me. I deal with it and I move on. At least that's the case for me. Not speaking for everybody, of course.
