Hey, case, I have this idea for a recurring GC thread...

I have no idea if it's appropriate, but I though I'd just ask here:

Would it be okay if I started up a daily thread in the GC - lets tentatively call it "Fiction Love" - where people could reply to the thread with a comment with the title of a canon work (book/movie/show/game/comic/manga/whatever) they like in the subject line with a comment about the work, and other people could post their replies to that person's comment or their random thoughts and opinions and squee about that work under that comment?

Kind of like a daily mini-anon meme (except it doesn't have to be anon), but specifically just for discussing or recommending or asking if anyone else is familiar with fictional works the members like.

And of course there could be multiple subjects per day. So it would be like:

Is this an okay thing to set up, or would it be inappropriate for this comm or too much work to mod in addition to the rest of the GC or something?

I know that Eccleston didn't get along with Barrowman. (Eccleston thought Barrowman was too loud and handsy. Barrowman thought Eccleston was a stick in the mud.)

But I haven't heard anything bad between those three in the pic. Was there something?

I'd chalk it up less to being the Smiths' problem and more to the fact that it's a Shyamalan film. People expect it to be so bad because of his past films that they have their hate knives sharpened and ready to slice way before they even see the movie.

I got a review once from an obvious shipper asking what would have happened had the characters not been rescued as soon as they had been, with the obvious implication that the reviewer thought shippy things would happen.

However, one of the protags was a strictly human guy who'd been beaten nearly to death and needed some pretty urgent medical attention.

So... I wrote that alternate ending. And posted it.

It was a beautiful funeral.

It's an issue of how you approach it. If you say "It makes me a little uncomfortable that there's so much more focus on how other characters react to the lynching than there is on the character who very nearly got lynched", that's a fair statement that can lead to discussion. What a lot of people would say is "The show is racist," which tends to raise tempers and prevent meaningful discussion.

But what about female writers who're good? They have the right to try to challenge the audience's preconceptions.

(I'm a man whose only published story is a romance, so I'm sort of approaching this from the opposite direction.)

I guess that's actually a fair point. Hollywood likes to make movies about how some person who's in some way physically or mentally disabled has a cool power or ability that "makes up" for it. Even in the context of an intentionally humorous fake disability ("dyspixia"), it'd be nice to see an acknowledgment that some things don't come with an upside. (Then again, the people who write "deaf" as "Deaf" would probably get pissed off at THAT . . .)

For me, werewolves usually looks so damn awkward, like they're not actually capable of tearing into you because they're made of rubber, hahahaha. |D But it sucks because they're my favorite standard horror monster, aside from zombies. :<

It very much depends on the type of RP, I suppose. When I was younger, I used to engage in RPs that consisted of long, detailed text posts. It was perfectly normal for a player to await an answer for as long as a week. [and no, not everyone there wrote purple prose]
It was almost the same as writing fic, except you were not the only one writing it.

But the short-ish kind of RP that seems to be widely accepted on the majority of the RP websites? It is good for writing smut and very simple romance. Wouldn't work with more complicated dynamics. And of course it gets much worse when the RPing is "purposefully terrible".

Still, there's nothing wrong with smut and idiotic love stories! Enjoy what you enjoy. There's nothing to be ashamed of.
