I have only watched a bit of the first Twilight movie. If they are not werewolves, why the hell does everyone call them that?

because they WERE werewolves until the author needed to pull something out of her ass to explain why they are able to coexist peacefully at the end of the series

here is my darkest secret: I have read the entirety of the Twilight series. In my defense, I was living in Japan at the time and they were the only English-language books available at my bookstore, and e-readers had barely been invented yet.

See, I disagree with that. No one calls them werewolves except the teenagers like Bella and yeah, Jacob and his friends. That's them using the only word they are familiar with to explain what happens to them, but that doesn't mean it's sloppy writing. The concept amonsgt the tribe had faded into myth so the new generation of wolves weren't up and up on the correct terminology until the characters who actually did know these things (the vampires) pointed it out.

(I think there's a lot wrong with Twilight, but that people tend to assume and expect the worst of it and they attack and hate on aspects that really aren't mock-worthy and would be given a pass in any other series. Like the 'vampires in the daylight' thing. You know what other book has vampires in the day time? Dracula. For me, the werewolf thing is really personal because it's actually not a terrible representation of the spiritwalker concepts some tribes (like mine) have. If I turned into a spirit wolf tomorrow, I'd get called a werewolf too but that doesn't mean it isn't different and I'll shut up now because wow no one cares)
