I know that Eccleston didn't get along with Barrowman. (Eccleston thought Barrowman was too loud and handsy. Barrowman thought Eccleston was a stick in the mud.)

But I haven't heard anything bad between those three in the pic. Was there something?

I think it was an example of actors looking happy

Oh, I'm in the same boat. I can't say that I cease to enjoy any show/film the cast of which are unhappy in some way, but it bothers me to no end. Especially if I know that somebody died/received an injury in the process of filming.

I can't really watch the last episodes of the Granada Holmes series for this reason. It absolutely breaks my heart. I stop paying attention to the quality of acting and start paying attention to how bad Jeremy Brett looks :/

On the other hand, knowing that actors are friends with each other or consider the filming process an enjoyable experience makes me strangely happy. This makes up for the first bit, I suppose.

And it doesn't apply to books for some reason. Although it does make me sad if my favourite authors turn out to be hapless people.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-09 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel your pain, OP. My very first fandom obsession, Dark Angel, which I watched as a pre-teen got seriously tainted years later when I discovered the stories of how awful the set was to be on. It makes me sad just thinking about the show now.

I know what you mean; it disappoints me when I find out a cast/crew doesn't get along. I don't know if it'll stop me from watching something, but it'll probably make me happy when I find out really positive behind the scenes stories.

(Which of these disliked each other?)

I think it is sad, but at the same time I distrust casts who claim "oh we're all the best of friends!" It just doesn't seem genuine to me.

Different part of Doctor Who, but I still haven't seen most of Four and Romana's last season together because I know what happened between the actors and I cannot watch them because of it.

Which is unfortunate, because there's one serial in there that I very much would like to see.

I've had trouble watching Dexter the last season (er.. apart from the fact that the show's getting pretty bad). Just knowing that Dexter and Deb got married IRL, then got a divorce, and now they're thrown into this weird relationship now on the show makes me feel really awkward for them (though, I guess I have no idea how they actually get along in real life after the divorce).

I'm with you on this OP. It's somehow so disheartening to find out that the people that portray the characters you enjoy watching don't get along while making the show/movie. And the opposite, when the cast seems like a family it just makes the show somehow so much more lovable.

Well you are just shit out of luck then aren't you. Show making is like any other line of work in this regard, at least one person hates someone else on every show. Personality clashes are always going to happen, no exceptions.

Background is of the Tenth Doctor, Martha Jones and Jack Harkness playing around and laughing.

Text: It's hard for me to enjoy a show if I've heard or feel that the actors are unhappy or don't like each other. Even though I know full well nothing released to the public is definitive proof of their attitudes it still makes me 100x less anxious to see them looking happy or friendly.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-09 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here. It's why I prefer not to know about any behind-the-scenes gossip unless it's all about how much everyone loves each other.

On the one hand, it's a job for the actors and like any other job, it's silly to demand everyone be super enthusiastic about it or to love it for all the same reasons people on the outside love it. On the other hand, it's always great when your job is fun and you get along with your co-workers and I like to see people happy.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-09 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I used to love this 90s sci-fi series, and I always thought the main couple was adorable. Years later I found out the actors couldn't stand each other, and somehow I can't unsee that now.

I understand perfectly OP, I absolutely adore it when I know that the actors in a TV show/movie I love all got along really well and had fun working together. But I love watching cast members goofing around together, makes me smile.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-09 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. I also find it hard to continue shipping a couple if I find out the actors don't like each other because I feel bad for "making them" interact with each other when they'd rather not just to fulfill my shipper desires (LOL how's that for irrational).

(Anonymous) 2013-06-09 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the idea of casts of a show /film getting along, but honestly when most actors go on about being great friends with their fellow cast members and how everyone was besties I tend to take it with a grain of salt because let's face it none of them are really going to say 'x was actually a bore and I couldn't wait to see the back of them or I couldn't stand so and so. It's always only ever about how everyone got along until the tell all book comes out and the truth is revealed. lol. I'm more surprised when actors turn out to be genuine friends then when it's revealed they actually aren't. Like I'm always hearing how well the Torchwood cast got along, which I liked the idea of, but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if it was mostly just p.r.

Actually my friend who worked on this season said David and Freema didn't get on. To the point where he asked for a change of cast or he was going to leave. It's why Tate was brought back for the very next season.
And yeah, I trust my friend as a source; he told me about the Ten clone long before spoilers went out. *shrugs*

Yeah, it always makes me sad too. Usually not quite to the point of 'ruining' the show, but it's definitely makes it a bit less enjoyable.

It made me sad to find out Jeri Ryan and Kate Mulgrew hated each other because the relationship between Seven and Janeway was one of my favourite things about the show.

I caught a Mysteries and Scandals episode (back when E! had some interesting programming) about I Love Lucy that completely devastated me. Apparently no one got along, and the actress to played Ethel basically was ostracized.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-10 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Same here. In my current fandom, most of the actors seem to get along really well, but there are just one or two that the others don't seem to mention voluntarily in interviews. I suspect there might be some tension there and that thought bothers me way more than it should.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-10 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm turned off when I learn an actor is a total douchebag. It makes me sad that an otherwise interesting and appealing show/movie is tainted by that. But I will say on the flipside, I'm not a huge fan of casts being super buddy/buddy, not to the point where it interferes with the show, which I've seen a few times.

The first example that comes to my head is CSI Miami. The Ryan and Delko characters never earned a friendship in my mind or the deep level of trust that showed up in the last seasons. But it was clear the actors liked each other and the production liked the actors -- it was like they were divorced from their own storyline because there was so much actor-bleed into the characters after such a long run. The characters could have been friends but they never actually developed the storyline.

Also, I've seen where the production simply adores a certain actor and are blinded in a lot of ways by the failings of the actor or the character the actor is playing. I just find that sometimes the buddy/buddy nature of some sets can affect the product negatively. I like when actors get along but I prefer when I learn things are just really professional behind the scenes.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-10 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I love looking at candid shots of the SPN guys since I think they all look to me like they get along really well.

What's super hilarious to me, though, is looking at a picture of Jensen and Misha together, and then seeing how Tumblr interprets it ("OMG COCKLES 5eva") vs. how spn-gossip interprets the exact same shot ("ugh Jensen clearly hates creepy Misha").
