I find my problem with unscary werewolves has less to do with what they look like or the forms they can take but the medium in which I consume them by. If they're in movies or TV it's much harder for me to find them scary. I don't think I've come across one yet that has frightened me. But if they're in a book, for example? Well, I think Jim Butcher pulled it off very nicely and I was very frightened of some of his werewolves.

May I enquire as to the book series or standalone that he wrote? I am very fond of werewolves and the promise of scary ones has me intrigued.

It's from his series The Dresden Files. They're first introduced in the second book of the series, titled Fool Moon. Some of the werewolves make reappearances and some only get mentioned now and again after that.

I should tell you, however, that is it a very long series and that its focus isn't on werewolves but is about a wizard who has to deal with an "all stories are true" kind of world where the supernatural is hidden from normal humans. It's also urban fantasy. He lives in present day Chicago. I absolutely love the series and am currently reading the latest one that came out.

Lastly, I should warn you that there is some mild sexism in the early books. It's gets better later on but it is there. Also, murder, gore, I think you can get the hint from that. Um, that's all I can think of to warn you for.

Aha! I know of that series, as a TV show first granted. A friend of mine has been encouraging me to read them recently so I've had it on my 'to read' list after I finish ASoiAF, the fact that there are werewolves in it at all has made me even more interested. The urban fantasy is also something that intrigues me so this is all good.

Yes! It was on TV for a very short while. I didn't see it myself but I hear it was very different and only covered the first book or so.

The eighth episode is based on the first book, the third episode is based on the second book, and the other ten episodes' plots are original to the TV series. Morgan's and (especially) Bob's characterizations are completely different, too. It's a very enjoyable show, though; I really wish it hadn't been cancelled.

I keep meaning to watch it. My friend has and she says it's good too. I just always keep forgetting and not finding the time to do so.

Why was it canceled anyway?

Just didn't get the ratings.

The actors for Murphy and Susan auditioned for the opposite roles they got. I think I've seen Murphy around in something since then, too. Was that "What the faaaaah?" moment not with you?

Also: Extra points to anyone who spots Butcher as an extra.
