Same anon.

See, I don't think any of them actually play Hannibal to character. I think Fuller probably had a hard time reconciling the utter classy of Hannibal with that sort of language, so he went full-on dandy and cut out Hannibal's cruder elements.

But I think the closest to capturing what Hannibal is all about has been Mads Mikkelsen. He's definitely got the seductive aspect down pat. You can trust me vibes. I don't think Hopkins [as good as an actor as he is] ever came off as more than a handsy college professor and/or creepy uncle air. It's like 'Wow, Clarice. You need an adult, stat. Quid pro get-the-fuck-out-of-there.'

THANK YOU FOR THIS! I feel like, ever since I said I'm glad to see something close to book!Hannibal, everyone's been going "HDU Anthony Hopkins can do no wrong!" and I'm just looking around awkwardly thinking, "I didn't say he's bad, I said the way his character was portrayed was bad, but some of it obviously has to do with him." Hopkinbal was definitely creepy and a great character but not what I think Harris wanted Hannibal to be, and Mikkelbal comes a lot closer.

Okay, glad to get that out of my system.
