I haven't much opinion on Ulliel, but as an older fan who read the books before most of the current Fannibal's were a twinkle in their father's eye-- Mads Mikkelson is far and away the best portrayal of Hannibal Lecter. I had reservations about the show, and held off until pretty recently, but I was hugely pleased, in no small part due to Mikkelsen. I find the movies difficult to watch precisely because of Hopkins. And this has nothing at all to do with physical appearance. I found him hammy and over-the-top.

YMMV, but damn. I think Mikkelsen is hella good.

Depends on whether it's an AU universe where mpreg is a known phenomenon. If not, it would probably just end in MSurgery to remove weird freaky parasite thing, how the fuck did that even happen.

To be fair I don't think any of them are particularly brilliant as Dr. Lecter; Mikkelsen seems too still; Hopkins too OTT; Ulliel almost touches on the smooth criminal aspect, but he misses so much more of the character.

Maybe a combination of the three is in order.

me, I avoid mpreg like the Plague. the only scenario in which this could IMHO work well is when the character in question is trans, but this curiously never happens :/

I think this applies to most fandoms.

Which is why I don't read any fic involving mpreg unless it was recced by someone I know has excellent taste. And even then it's usually only slightly better than mediocre.
