I politely say this as a writer.

No.

Fuck that.

The only way to combat this kind of thinking is to get more of us out there. The problem isn't with me. It's with them. So why should I have to hide away and do things that could be to my detriment just to appease some assholes? The fact of the matter is there aren't as many women writers out there as men writers right now. There are not only fewer of us but there are fewer, of that group, getting their scripts accepted. I don't really think you fully understand how sexism is ingrained in the system itself or how I can't just not show up and not show my face to someone who potentially wants to buy my script.

I digress. I started getting into the creation process and I'm sure you only are talking about audience reception.

But OP, seriously, this makes me sad.

The problem is with them, but good luck getting them to fix that. Somebody's gotta budge, and it will never be them.

Remember how Paranorman had a character revealed to be gay only at the very end? That's what we have to be. We have to be stealthy-women until we have success, because as long as we're openly women...we probably won't have success at all.

They will budge with time. Maybe a lot of time. We're better off now than we were before. I may not see much improvement in the immediate future but I still have to do what I think is right, is best for me, and act accordingly.

*applause* You tell 'em, gurl. I understand that some writers play into the system out of personal necessity, and I don't fault anyone for that, but playing into the system doesn't fix the system and I give major props to those who choose not to.

If you are planning to try and sell your scripts (I couldn't tell if you were being hypothetical or not), good luck! I'm sure you'd write awesome movies.
