Oh! I missed that. But if they don't read the fic how in the world do they know the other writers are better than them? That sounds like low self-esteem talking.

I should have been clearer; what I meant was that I did start out reading fic in the fandom (before I started writing for it, and then before my fics got popular). But then when I did end up becoming a really popular writer I noticed that there was a huge discrepancy between the quality of my very popular work and the much better, less popular works of other writers... and I don't know how or why it happened, but now I don't read other fics at all :\

Aw, you shouldn't feel bad about it. Don't let your popularity ruin fandom for you.

If you still feel guilty you can use your popularity to promote them. Otherwise, if I were you I would just try to ignore the discrepancies as best I could. Read what you like. Comment on what you like. Fandom is for fun first. I know it sounds easy to say and hard to do but you don't sound happy about it and if you're not happy that's a problem that needs to be fixed.

I wish you the best of luck and hope all goes well for you.

No problem. I hope you keep feeling better.

Quality may not be an objective thing in this case (you might be a harsher critic of your own work than you are of theirs), or it just may be that you right stuff that *feels* better/more fun, even if the others are technically better. Whatever the reason, I wouldn't let it wear you down too much.

As a lot of others have written, the best thing you can do to assuage the guilt is help those other fans get recognized. I *love* getting fanfic recommendations from authors I like, and I know that when I've been recced, especially by someone I admire, I have felt really flattered! And hey, then you could actually read and enjoy fic again.

What I'm saying is, fandom has clearly recognized you as awesome! And fandom can be even more awesome if you, as someone with a voice, make it all positive and fluffy by showing others some love. :)

I agree with the others, use your popularity to comment on the writers who you feel are better than you. Look how often a writer will put that it means a lot to them if they get a nice comment from a writer they like.

Thing is your stuff is probably a lot better than you think, but even if you are right and the others are more literary, maybe your stuff has themes and plots that appeal more.
