I don't mind my voice normally, speaking or singing. It's when I hear it recorded that I start to cringe. Do I really sound like that?

It's really weird how you hear yourself differently on a recording.

I sound so pitchy and horrible.

I've been told I have a nice voice in person though, and I can even sing okay.

Yeah, I'm completely the same. I like how my voice sounds when I'm hearing it normally, but when it's recorded and played back, I'm suddenly something like two or three octaves higher in pitch.

It also has a lot less... oomph? I don't know what the word properly is, sorry. Just, when did I become a chipmunk.

(Bad instrument metaphor time: recorded-voice is like a piccolo, while the voice I hear on a daily basis is more like an oboe or bassoon.)

Ugh, same here. My voice is fairly bland and inoffensive on its own, but I sound like a damn twelve-year-old in recordings and it's grating as hell. Like, I got a call the other day from this law firm inquiring as to whether or not anyone in my household had suffered side effects from the Yaz birth control pill, and they had one of those setups where you hear everything you say repeated back on this really grainy recording, and I could barely make out what the guy was saying to start with and apparently he couldn't understand me too well either, and also I have a special hatred for talking on the phone as it is, so after he asked me if I was sure I was a lesbian and if I was sure I didn't have a blood clot after taking Yaz (for the sixth time, I swear) I made up an excuse and hung up 'cause DAMN. And then I had a panic attack. It would've been an unbearable experience even without hearing my voice on that recording, but it was so very much worse with it. /tl;dr
