I was actually going to say that on the face of it, this didn't seem so bad. It's not that multishippers need to not exist, it's that you don't want them on OTP comms.

Then I paused and had to think: what's an OTP comm? Because pairing specific comms aren't really the same thing, are they? Anyone who ships the pairing, either as an OTP or as one of a few pairings they multiship, can take part. And rightly so.

An OTP comm, meaning a comm for people who only ship that pairing, would be something different, wouldn't it?

Do they exist? OTP comms? I've seen pairing comms, but I've never seen comms dedicated to only OTP style shipping of certain pairings. Has anyone else?

That was my reaction too. If there's a comm that says, "This is only for people who ship this pairing exclusively," then it IS off topic to talk about other ships. However, I don't assume that an A/B comm is for people who exclusively OTP the characters, and unless that's made clear in the guidelines, it seems like an unreasonable complaint.

It's always off topic to talk about something unrelated to the comm.
Honestly, talking about B/C in a A/B comm is like talking about Fandom A in a Fandom B comm just because they have in common that were created by the same person.

The OP actually stated up thread it was a comm for the pairing *and* people who like the characters A and B without the pairing. So...yeah, I think they actually *meant* pairing comm which...really is unreasonable.

Then again, I think it'd be pretty unreasonable to kick people out of OTP comms for shipping other things, as long as they didn't constantly bring up their other ships. So.

One of my former fandoms had comms along those lines, but that was in the context of extremely over-invested ship warring and the atmosphere was pretty toxic.
