For some reason, the "You don't understand my pain!" part of this secret just makes me laugh. Yes OP, that is definitely hella petty. Especially since some of those multishippers may have their own OTPs that they don't ship with anybody else. They could very well understand. Unless the community is for A/B only and nothing else is allowed ever ever, try to chillax.

Yes, it is petty. Maybe you could gently point out that you are not a multishipper and would prefer not to discuss your OTP characters being with other characters. If you keep it polite, people will be more amenable to your request.

I was actually going to say that on the face of it, this didn't seem so bad. It's not that multishippers need to not exist, it's that you don't want them on OTP comms.

Then I paused and had to think: what's an OTP comm? Because pairing specific comms aren't really the same thing, are they? Anyone who ships the pairing, either as an OTP or as one of a few pairings they multiship, can take part. And rightly so.

An OTP comm, meaning a comm for people who only ship that pairing, would be something different, wouldn't it?

Do they exist? OTP comms? I've seen pairing comms, but I've never seen comms dedicated to only OTP style shipping of certain pairings. Has anyone else?

We all get invested in our OTPs. I understand why you get upset over it. That may not be the healthiest perspective to have but it is understandable.

While your wording is a bit silly, I actually agree? One of my favorite ships is often accompanied by a side ship I hate (i.e. one of the two characters I ship ALWAYS mentions that he used to be with some other character before, and I hate THAT ship), and I really wish those fics weren't all over the place. It'd be nice to have a place where I can read fic for my OTP without every other fic including the side ship and NOT TAGGING IT because everyone assumes people love the side ship.

Think about it this way. Your pairing is big enough for a comm. It isn't a tiny ship from a tiny, barely surviving fandom. What the fuck are you even complaining about?

I don't hang out in comms, but I always thought multi-shipping was healthier, as I'm less likely to get upset if A and C get together instead of A and B.

I can understand not wanting to hear people talk about ships you dislike (especially if those ships 'interfere' with your OTP), but...yea, comms for pairings are open to everyone no matter how casual their interest in the ship and it should stay that way. (Plus, you can't really restrict people because they don't ship something hard enough. How would that even work?)

You know this though. It might be petty but at least it isn't hurting anyone, lol.

I wouldn't say that people who have multiple ships for the same character shouldn't be allowed in shipping comms, but I think that people should recognize and respect what the focus of the comm is about. If I ship A/B and A/C, if I'm in an A/B comm, I'm going to realize that it's in poor taste to talk about how I'd be just as happy if A/B break up because I like A/C too. The point of the comm is A/B love.

They want to talk about liking A/C and B/D on their our journal or on a general community? Fine.

But when they do that on a A/B community it gets annoying. I'm there for my OTP, I want to talk about A/B and not other ships.

This is really petty, yeah. But on the other hand I HAVE been a part of a few pairing specific coms where people just would not shut the fuck up about other pairings and it was really obnoxious.

This is especially shitty for me because I have PTSD and there's a few relationship dynamics that set off my panic attacks like crazy. I feel like I shouldn't have to actively avoid going to an A/B comm just because someone is going to be going on and on about how great some other pairing is.

Usually when I'm in a pairing specific comm, I'm all for that one pairing. I only get up in arms when said pairing comm bashes one of my other pairings which happened very frequently in one comm before the mods came in. I get "otp" but putting down other ships and shippers aren't cool even if you're in a pairing comm. That said, I wish there was otp comms so I could avoid them.

This just gave me flashbacks of the days when house_wilson was modded by someone who didn't like the ship but liked it as part of a threesome pairing that was a consolation to their OTP. Hint: their OTP wasn't House/Wilson.

That comm turned into such a mess and new mods were brought in that turned the place into their own little dictatorship. It was years before I could get a mod to give me posting access so I could delete all the stuff I'd posted there before they ruined the place. I'm even commenting anon because I can't bear the thought of being associated with that place despite still loving the ship itself.

Uh, IDK where you hang out, but I have never been a member of a pairing community that forbid anyone from mentioning other pairings in the comments.

The entire point of a pairing comm is to have a place for fanworks and discussion focusing on a specific pairing. It is not a dictatorship where you can never mention any other pairing ever.

So suck it up and deal with it, because yes, you are being ridiculously petty.

The only thing I'll say is, I've been terrorized out of a community by people like you, and I wasn't even multishipping in their faces. They just knew from a somewhat outside source. And until today I can't post my fics on that fandom because they will know it's me.

And no, a sock is not an option. My writing is quite distinctive (I'm an ESL), and besides, I wanted my name associated with those fics. Starting completely anew after 12 years writing is depressing.
