I wouldn't say that people who have multiple ships for the same character shouldn't be allowed in shipping comms, but I think that people should recognize and respect what the focus of the comm is about. If I ship A/B and A/C, if I'm in an A/B comm, I'm going to realize that it's in poor taste to talk about how I'd be just as happy if A/B break up because I like A/C too. The point of the comm is A/B love.

My experience has been more with basically being yelled out of ship-centric comms because I said that while I liked A/B, I also liked C (A's canonical love interest) and did not think C was a horrible person. Which is also pretty rude, IMHO.

There's a difference between actively advocating a A/C pairing and talking about not caring if A/B breaks up because of it, which is what OP is talking about, and simply refusing to bash C as a character. Character-bashing a canon love interest (or even a perceived competitor) to "defend" a non-canon ship is also shitty.

This exact situation in 2007. I shipped Jack Sparrow/Elizabeth Swann. The community was for Jack/Elizabeth. I also don't mind Will/Elizabeth, because they're the canon ship, and I knew they were always going to be endgame. I'm pretty sure the mod had to institute a "no Will-bashing" rule, because it was REALLY bad at that comm.

I never got yelled at, though, because I never stepped on people's toes, thankfully.
