I don't see how Amador's death could have been avoided. If anything, it showed his character: he's pretty much a jerk to women but when it comes to his country, he's loyal and serves it well. But what was Philip supposed to do? If they ran his ID, he'd be discovered. If Amador asked Martha about Philip, it would expose him.

Gregory's death was avoidable. How did they NOT find the ring when they swept the car?

Also, I think someone's killed every episode, even Zhukov died. It's probably safe to say that Vasili Nikolaevich is dead. Each death has impacted the course the show has taken. If not for Amador's death, Nina wouldn't have lost Vladimir and convinced her to confess. Without Gregory's death, the FBI wouldn't have been satisfied and Elizabeth probably wouldn't have reconciled with Philip (but I still think this death was avoidable). Sometimes for the plot to move on, people have to die, and in a non paranormal show, the main characters can't be the ones to die.

I thought the parenthetical implied OP was talking more about Amador as a *person* when it came to an avoidable death, not the machinations required to make the show work. And from that perspective, yeah. Amador could have not died if he hadn't been all up in "Clark's" face for sleeping with Martha. Because he was there, essentially, stalking her, not because he had a line on the Philip.

And I'm a little torn on the ICness of it. I mean, yeah, Amador made rash, hot-headed decisions but, one come-on aside, he always seemed more interested in the general "pussy" and less the Martha-specific variety. (BTW, I just made the Martha-Clark "Superman" connection and kind of want to vomit a bit.)

But really, I didn't care a ton about Amador, nor am I super in love with Stan, but I'm a sucker for "teammate in peril" stories, and Stan just wandering around like a lost puppy trying to find Amador absolutely made my day. I loved that.

Agreed that many people died in the show and mostly for plot-necessary reasons. To me, the "bringing it on themselves" with these two deaths just reiterated the underlying theme of the futility and inevitability of the Cold War/P&E's missions.

Would also like to point out to the OP that Nina (a part-Indian actress) and Viola (an African-American actress who appeared in two eps to Derek Luke's three) not only both survived the season, they also showed great growth and power in their storylines. How about giving the ladies some love and credit?
