You know what's really hard to put on a white backdrop? White. They mix 'n match based on the background color because its easier that way and no one (barring OP) really cares either way.

That's just the business world aiming for easier, shorter-to-produce marketing pieces, buddy. Ain't nobody got time for dat technicalities shit.

*raises hand*

I care! Why don't Cinderella dolls get made with silver/ivory/verypale blue gowns?

I care. Her dress is SILVER. Even if the box has to make it a tad bluer, at LEAST make the doll's damn dress SILVER.

But with the recent changes to most of the princesses these days, her days of having a gorgeous silver dress are over....

(Anonymous) 2013-06-11 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
But... surely if it's an official picture... then it's correct? Because. It's official?

I don't know, it's always looked blue to me. I thought it was just somewhere between periwinkle and powder blue.

That's what I thought; that it was a very light blue, but still blue-ish.

I haven't seen Cinderella in ages, though, so I could be wrong.

That wasn't the best picture to try to prove your point with. It definitely looks blue there—you could argue that it's the lighting, and it's certainly a lighter, grayer blue than she's often marketed in, but still looking blue to me.

+1

(Anonymous) 2013-06-11 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I've always thought it was a very light blue, but if it is to be white I can only guess that after awhile having two white dresses was a bit too much like having two wedding dresses, and we all know Disney will do whatever they can to make as many toys for kids to buy hence you need to buy the original ball gown that needs to be a different color from the white wedding dress.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-11 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
but it looks blue in your pic?

(Anonymous) 2013-06-11 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
My rage comes out when her hair is yellow or platinum blonde and not strawberry blonde.

(But I feel you, OP. Especially as I think the dress being colored as actual blue instead of pale-blue-representing-silver is why Aurora's stuck in the ugly-ass pink dress in all the princess line shit.)

(Anonymous) 2013-06-11 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG I prefer Aurora's dress as blue, and I am pretty disappointed knowing that she's stuck with the pink now.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, this. They're clearly going for a rainbow effect, don't want to lump up too much of one color, and I was pleased as pie when Tiana finally brought the green dress of awesome, but Aurora wore blue most of the flick. Proper blue too.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-11 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was silver/white, so it sometimes looked Blue depending on setting.

Seems it's an age thing

I always liked the idea of her dress either being a sparkly platinum color, or like being coated in / made out of tiny whitish crystals (which would follow the theme of her shoes being glass).

*nod* Totally agreement.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
I'm with sparkly!

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
OH MY GOD A CRYSTAL DRESS

yes this is my new headcanon

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
that's actually how I always pictured it

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Let's be silly together, OP! I hate that they keep making her dress blue in all the marketing shit, too.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
On the Disney book I read a million times as a small kid, it was definitely blue. I mean, sky blue, not blue that looks like silver, not silver that looks like blue. Since that was my first and only contact with her for so long, that's my head canon. Sorry, OP.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
The Fairy Godmother checks the color of Cinderella's eyes (which are blue) in order for the dress to match. So it is blue, but at times looks silvery.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
And yet people like OP refuse to acknowledge this. I think some people just run out of things to complain about.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
A really light shimmery blue is what I always thought it was.

Silver is a real bitch of a color to get right, OP. If you screw it up, it just looks grey (which is usually ugly) or it looks white, or a very light shade of another colour. Especially with a static image so you can't show off the light reflection, which is a hallmark of silveryness. (That is now a word cuz I said so.) So I don't blame them for choosing light blue.
