No, Supernatural is an older crowd that the tweens and teens of Twilight. Less fantasizing about the perfect guy who obsesses over you just as you are, more 'watch hot guys fuck'.

nope nope and nope. despite what people that criticize twilight from a social justice/what about the children?? perspective, people that like twilight go well into their twenties (as well as a handful of older middle aged women). fandom may be younger, but the appeal isn't only to tweens.

and your bias might be showing. supernatural is as much escapist as twilight. there are plenty of fans that are in it for ~destiels beautiful relationship~ and other such vapid (but harmless) fluff.

and while obviously the focus of twilight is romance, I know plenty of people that read it just as casually as people who participate in spn fandom for the "watching hot guys fuck" aspect. trashy, unrealistic paperback entertainment.

Never said SPN wasn't escapist, dear, it is ENTERTAINMENT, after all. But your point was that you thought the fandoms cater to the same demographics and they don't. There are always overlaps and outliers, but the core does differ. I thought the Twilight fans had graduated to 50 Shades anyway.

Correct me if I'm wrong since I know very little about the Supernatural fandom but... if the fans are in it for the destiel ship... then they're not the ones mentioned in the secret that specifically points out to the wincest. At the very least, the destiel ship is less fucked up because it doesn't involve brothers fucking.

Personally, I think Twilight is worse because Twilight is canon-approved. The whole idea behind Twilight is that the horrible abusive relationship between Edward and Bella is not only romantic, but the best possible romantic relationship ever. While yes, fans of Wincest may treat their ship that way, but it's not the intention of the actual canon.

I don't think it matters which fandom has the 'older, more mature' group because one is a canon pairing and the other is not. It makes a difference. Any fic writer worth her salt will know what she's starting out with and either respect the tone of canon or not, depending on the goal. Sometimes you want to explore the hidden darkness in the supposedly ideal romance. Other times you want some sugar to cut the canonical doom and gloom. It might look like badfic to you, and a lot of it probably is genuinely shallow, but fanfic doesn't change the canon in the end.

So far I have seen more porn and crack (and some angst) when it comes to Destiel than fluff.

But I'm not that much into the fandom, so maybe I'm missing a lot.
